Instructional League FAQ- Guidelines and Details

LEAGUE MISSION AND GOALS

Our mission for this league is to create a learning environment for our players to:

  • Gain more knowledge of the game
  • Learn the mechanics and fundamentals to play better baseball
  • To enjoy the process of improvement
  • To have fun on the field competing against other players

This league is not your typical league where players show up, warm up, and play a game.  Our goal is to take each player through a journey of skill building through creating good training habits, preparation, and the ability to learn and grow from mistakes on the field.

Our league prioritizes sportsmanship at all levels.  We will not tolerate players, parents, fans, coaches, or umpires showing anything less than good sportsmanship.  We created this league to set a good example for our young players in an instructional and competitive setting.  We want to remind everyone that positive attitudes  and respectful communication is required in this league.

SPORTS ENGINE LEAGUE SOFTWARE
Our fall leagues are now run with Sports Engine software.  Every player (and parent) should download the Sports Engine app to enable viewing of real time schedules, rosters, team messaging and chat functions.  All of our communication (league and team) will be delivered with the Sports Engine software.  You may also add any family member or person needing access to the team information by using the "Add Guardian" feature on the Sports Engine app.

SCHEDULE
Instructional League is 5 weeks long.  We have room in the schedule for one make up week at the end of the season.  If more than one weekend is rained out, we will likely not make up any games past weekend number 6 (rain makeup weekend)

During our break between our clinic and game (11:30-Noon), players can rest and eat.  Lunch is not provided but  our Kennedy Little League location will have the concessions open for players to be able to buy lunch.

Parents are welcome to visit with their players during our break, but it is not required.  They will be with their teammates and our instructors during that time.

BASEBALL ATTIRE AND UNIFORMS
Each player will be provided a team shirt.  Players must wear their team shirt with baseball pants and a cap of their choosing.   If a team has a specific uniform for all of the players, the team can wear their team uniform as long as all players have access to wear the uniform.

EQUIPMENT NEEDED
Players are required to bring a:

  • Glove
  • Bat
  • Helmet
  • Any other personal equipment with which they may feel comfortable.

The league will provide baseballs, all training equipment, and catcher's equipment if needed by the team.

Most importantly…bring a good attitude and be ready to learn every week.  The quickest way to improve your game is to learn and practice as much as possible.

RAIN POLICY
In the case of rain delays or cancellations, we will post updated weather cancellation information on the home page of the League Website.  We will also post updates often on Twitter. We encourage you to “Friend” and/or “Follow” us to get the latest updates on Silver Sluggers Academy and our programs.

Immediately prior to or during games, the weather cancellation decisions will be made by the umpires and coaches.

BATS ALLOWED
There are no specific guidelines on certification, size, weight, or brand of bat.  We recommend USA certified bats, but do not have specific requirements on bats in our league.

TEAM ROSTERS
For our Instructional League, we try to keep our rosters purposefully small to keep the training groups small, and the players getting as many reps as possible.  If a team needs extra players for 9 defensive players, the team may "borrow" a defensive player from the other team to play defense.

FIELD LOCATIONS
Our clinics and games are held at two locations:

Ripp Park, Waunakee
213 Dorn Drive, Waunakee

Kennedy Little League
3600 County Road T, Madison
